5St. Bernadette (Vasek) 3-1
A newcomer in this week’s rankings, the Bernie Boyz have quietly put together an impressive season so far. Their only loss, a four-pointer to St. Chris, is overshadowed by 3 big wins, most notably a 57-33 domination of St. Angela Merici. Albert “Bert” Vasek and Alex Schum are an upgraded Bert and Ernie, leading the ‘Dawgs to a solid year.
4St. Christopher (Hunt) 4-1
A team of shooters that lives and dies by the three, the Knights have been putting up gaudy scores on very good teams, most notable a 72 piece on St. Mary of Avon. Hunt, Pham, Adler, and Young are a better quartet than John, Paul, Ringo, and George.
3St. Charles (Ciupa) 4-1
With one of the most loaded rosters in all of CYO, including former freshman basketball players John Tenerowicz, Nick Tenaglia, and Armand Muhammad, this is an offensive juggernaut of a team that put up 96 (!) points last weekend against St. Brendan. Tenerowicz can score in bunches, and leads a team of stars that can play with anyone in the city.
2St. Mary of the Falls (Rohr) 6-0
Quite possibly the most consistent team in CYO, the ‘Bolts just find ways to win games. A culture of winning and a team-first mentality is what sets them apart from the rest. Ryan Mark and Andrew Clark are a match made in heaven, playing together better than Eddie Van Halen in the ‘80s. Be ready for a grind-em-out battle if you come across them on your schedule.
1St. Ignatius (Emery) 4-1
Despite one forfeiture this past weekend, Ignatius has been dominant in their other four games, winning by an average of 11 points per game. They might have played one of the toughest schedules in CYO, knocking off powerhouse teams week in and week out, such as Ed, St. Angela, and St. Chris. Pat Russell is a problem on offense, and is a leader for this team of Juniors.
