After falling to the St. Edward Eagles on April 19 at Sullivan Gym, Coach Casey Marcelo and his team went back to the drawing board and came ready when they saw their foe again on April 27 at the Centerville Elite Eight Invitational The ‘Cats fought off St. Edward, 3-2, in a back-and-forth affair. The Wildcats took something from that game, as many spectators and media did as well. Coming in at #4 in the state tonight, Saint Ignatius was ready for a big showdown with the end of the regular season upon us versus St. Edward at the Eagles’ Nest. The Wildcats still had some revenge in mind after falling on their home court to the Eagles.
The tone would be set by Casey Marcelo and his squad. It was a true leader, Jeff Granger, who stepped up to lead Saint Ignatius past St. Edward, 3-1. Early in the first set, it was 9-9 in Lakewood, but Granger’s three kills had Saint Ignatius with an established force. The Wildcats went on to win the first set, 25-19. St. Ed’s would not be denied in the second set, as they would answer with a 25-18 triumph. Then, lengthy Jeff Granger and Tim Hollis both led the ‘Cats to a 25-17 victory in the third set.
After starting the fourth set up 6-0, Coach Casey Marcelo’s team showed why they are #4 in Ohio. Jeff Granger had three aces early and ended up having the kill to end the game with a 25-16 set win.
The regular season concludes on Thursday with the Wildcats hosting Andrews Osborne at a little after 7 pm.
