Student Senate Statement: Michael Zupan and Owen Manning

In order to help the student body make an informed choice, The Eye offered the two final candidate slate a space to make a statement about their ticket. What follows is Michael Zupan and Owen Manning’s unedited statement.

ZUPANNING

(Zupan Manning)

Men of Ignatius!

As you heard Monday, my name is Michael Zupan. I’m currently, thanks to each and every one of your votes, still in the running for next year’s student body president. We had a great turnout today. I was very well pleased.

I appreciate all you guys voting today and showing you care about what happens next year. It shows a deeper involvement in the school and pride for what we do here. (Perhaps, enough to run for office?) Owen and I, despite all the fun and games that surround the elections, are very serious about holding office to represent you next year. We have represented you for several years thus far, and have gained invaluable experience in Senate that can’t be offered by any other group at St. Ignatius. Our experience and our dedication has brought us before you now, and you asked us to continue on in this race, and with a little luck, take the presidency for next school year.

There are a lot of jobs involved with being president. But, as Mr. Howard’s favorite line says, “Politicians often get stuck inside the beltway, and forget those who put them in office.” I do not consider myself a politician by any means. But, you are my constituents with whom I have the pleasure of serving our school and our community. We won’t forget those who put us in office, and we won’t just sit on our throne above everyone else. I firmly intend to keep every single one of you, minus my little brother, in consideration, and will always take any idea you bring to me seriously. That is my promise to you.

So, Men, don’t be that guy,
Don’t vote for politicians that cheat and lie,
There are still good ones out there, despite what they say,
And we won’t let problems get in our way.

So depending on what you may have been planning,
I really encourage you to vote Zupan-Manning,
the Duo with hard work, dedication, and skill,
All that we can do, we certainly will.

Get out there tomorrow and vote Wildcats.

P.S.– No promises, but this whole logo thing will be our first priority.

Finally, a quick letter from Owen, my Vice.

Hello guys.

First off, we’d just like to thank all of you for the great voter turnout today. Thanks for taking the time and showing that you care about the leadership in our great school. Hopefully you guys can do the same thing for the final election on Wednesday. Thank you to Russ, Pete, Jack, Ricky, Paul, and Joe for making running in this race such a great experience, and congratulations to Paul and Joe for making it to the final election.  We appreciate your decision to send us through to the next stage, and we promise that you made the right choice in voting Zupan-Manning. Our experience on Senate, especially our experience from this year, is one of the most important reasons you guys should consider us. We’re very familiar with the procedures and accomplishments this year’s Senate has made, and we know what things we want to improve and what things we want to keep the same next year. This is not the time to change things up; it’s the right move keeping us in Senate and selecting us as the leaders of the school.

Yours Always,

Owen Manning ’14
Junior Class Vice President
